- A long term goal that will have some bite sized objectives to lay foundation

Boys Advocacy and Mentoring. BAM: questions, concerns, points of contact: Howard Hiton speaking engagements, publications for philosophy and approach to working with boys
- AARC did not attend
- Funding deadline was too close
- Questions about whether BAM is approaching prevention in accordance with AARC mission and constitution

Public Service Announcement from our Outreach Coordinator:

Just a reminder to VOTE, VOTE, VOTE! Halloween is a good day to remember as the postmark deadline for mailing in your Oregon ballots. After the 31st, you’ll want to drop it at a ballot box (for example at the PSU library or ASPSU office SMSU 119) or bring it to your elections office.

If you haven’t filled out your ballot yet and would like any guidance on the slew of ballot measures and candidates, check out http://www.voteequality.com/ a guide by Basic Rights Oregon – an organization I work for and have immense faith in. There are many CRITICAL races and ballots in Oregon, so please don’t forget to VOTE!

Winter Retreat ? Friday December 12th through Sunday the 14th APPROVED!
Retreat task list:

7:30 Saturday November 15th at the 5th Avenue Cinema (Ondine building, SW Hall between Broadway and 5th)
- Tash will bring AARC materials to screening, and create flyer for film screening
- Next meeting we will each take flyers to distribute

Updates:
1) AARC Winter Retreat.
a. December 13th through the 15th Manzanita
i. Taking our own vehicles
ii. Weather depending there may be some cyclists groovin? over
2) Residence Life showing of ?Hard Candy? 10-21 7pm Ondine Lobby PSU
a. WRC and AARC will be facilitating a discussion on the film
b. Pre-screening to develop discussion direction at Tash?s Sunday 8:30 until we got it worked out. Email Tash (tshatz@pdx.edu ) for directions.
c. Tash will be bringing educational materials, handbills etc. to the showing
3) AARC showing of ?Dreamworlds 3? and discussion following will be happening Fall term.
a. We are waiting on 5th Avenue Cinemas coordinator to return Andrew?s phone calls, and emails, and phone calls and emails.
b. Once time is established (a Friday or Saturday night) we will be spreading the word through classes, other student groups, Res. Life folks, WRC, PWCL, University Studies classes, Women?s Studies, Sociology departments ect.
c. Brendan has volunteered his amazing talents to create a flyer for promotion
4) In Reach Event. Bowling!!!!
a. Saturday November 8th, 7:30pm to 9:30pm. RESERVATION CONFIRMED. Put in your calendars.

a. AARC putting on ?What is Rape Culture?? workshop
i. Tash and Andrew planning on showing group for feed back, refinement and general group awareness raising
b. AARC also hosting (or helping to host) a male ally discussion around the topics of the conference
6) SALP, SOC stuff
a. Andrew attended the SALP day training
b. AARC is Re-registered as a PSU group
c. AARC is going to be SOC funded
i. Andrew will investigate the process for SFC funding
7) Exploring Patriarchal Masculinity Group
a. Looking to be a fabulous group for male identified people, AARC members, and anyone else to explore their own gender socialization, heal, gain tool, be around AMAZING people etc.
b. Next meeting October 26th, 5:30pm, Address mad available to interested individuals. Contact AARC@pdx.edu
Discussion:
1. ?review of primary prevention concept / brainstorm ways for us to pursue it.
create annual membership and recruitment goals, event attendance, goals, etc; brainstorm std. ways to achieve goals?
- Networking with other campus groups across Oregon to develop a core group of people who can pursue the goal of educating young male identified people issues related to AARC?s mission and goals
i. Reach out to resources and get assistance in developing a teaching curriculum
- Engaging in education of groups on campus that maintain strong male-peer support systems that traditionally have attitudes and beliefs that are conducive to gender violence. For example: fraternities, sports teams.
- Networking with whoever we need to in order to develop and implement a mandatory consensus training for incoming freshman
- How do we maintain AARC cohesion with the ebb and flow of the student graduation.
i. Reach out to community for stable and consistent membership.
1. Increasing out coalition building with community resources and utilizing existing resources to find more interested individuals outside of the PSU student population.
2. Andrew will investigate the PSU limitations that might inhibit AARC?s ability to have a group that might potentially consist of a majority of alumni and/or non-students

2. What do newly arrived folks want to get out of this. Ideas, Ideas, ideas, questions?
- Lots of events and activism that reaches out to the community
- Provide material and workshops to educate incoming members about becoming AARC members.

AARC Minutes 10/9/08

Intros

Research Project
-Individual Interviews, 1-2 Hours in Length, talking about ?oppositional masculinities?
Inreach Event: Bowling, on a weekend soon, awesome!
Retreat: Coast, Early on in the break, Colin will bring back dates

Proposals:
#1: Ondine RA?s Mark and Derrick are going to be showing ?Hard Candy? in the Ondine Lobby. Their event will be directed towards first year experience students. The WRC is co-sponsoring, there will be food Tues Oct 21st at 7pm. They?re asking us to facilitate a discussion and offer resources and definitions around sexual assault and consent.
WE ARE DOING IT! There will be a prescreening @ Tash?s to craft discussion questions.
#2: Andrew proposed that we should show either dreamworlds 3 or Tough Guise at the 5th ave Cinemas on campus. We talked about having a discussion about what we can do afterwards and maybe a consent workshop as well.
We Approved This, Andrew will be talking to the folks at the 5th ave.
There will be a masculinity discussion @ the Green House Collective at 4409 SE Tibbets this Sunday at 5:30.
